Ask TBI: Looking After Skin On Long-Haul Flights

Question: I'm going on a long-haul flight next month and whenever I fly my skin becomes dull and dry. How can I stop this? - Christina, Belfast.

Answer:

In-flight dehydration is the worst! But fear not, there are lots of ways to over come it. This may sound obvious but drinking water is the best thing you can do. The increase in altitude and exposure to low moisture levels really contribute to dehydration, so it is advised that you drink at least 8oz (227ml) of water per hour to make up for what is lost. While we are on the subject of drinking, alcohol consumption is a big no no (shit, right?!) Alcohol is a diuretic, meaning it draws water from the body causing dehydration. Because of this, alcohol magnifies any pre-existing skin irregularities, such as fine lines and wrinkles. Coffee, soft drinks and chocolate are also diuretics so avoid these too!

Weekly Worship: Little Butterfly London

I've always believed that a good skincare routine should start at a young age; exactly what age that is will forever be up for debate. Personally, I don't think there is too young an age - if I had been capable of doing anything I wanted as a baby, I'm sure I would've soaked myself in all the skincare products possible. Luckily, babies of today are surrounded by lots of great skincare brands for their parents to pamper them with. One of those brands is Little Butterfly London, a mother and baby skincare label that takes an earth-to-skin approach to wellbeing...

Antonio Corral Calero is a world-renowned hair stylist who has worked with everyone from Saint Laurent and Christian Dior, to Zac Posen and Marchesa. What is your career highlight?

As the Moroccanoil Global Creative Ambassador, I've had the opportunity to meet people and see places I never could have imagined. I have certainly become a traveller and an explorer in this journey. However, the most rewarding part of being in this position is that I get to communicate my experiences through sharing with and showing other people what I love to do. We are a company that is making a difference in the industry and I am so proud to be a part of it. The best is yet to come, as I am now living in Barcelona and currently working on many exciting projects.

The Tuesday Tip: Pencil Before Plucking

pencil-eyebrows-before-plucking.html

We've all been there. Hunched over our TweezerMate Magnifying Mirror, obsessing over the shape of our brows and plucking a little more than we should. It's hard not to get carried away with the tweezers but the less you pluck the better. Always. After all, no bitch wants sperm brows...

Weekly Worship: Rahua Elixir

rahua-elixir-review

Price: £140.00 / $175.00 30ml

Stockists: rahua.com / skinstore.com

Rahua Elixir is an 100% natural, pure hair oil that is designed to deliver healthier and stronger hair...and it does that. Crazily-well. It is a lightweight, non-greasy and - importantly - non-gloopy oil that glides onto the hair like a dream. It can be applied to wet or dry hair, however I find it better on dry hair as it gives a more even application.

Interview: Lucy Patterson | Founder of MILK Beauty

MILK-Beauty-Lucy-Patterson-Interview

Lucy Patterson is the founder of MILK Beauty, a life-saving brand that delivers a range beauty and wellness treatments to busy Londoners, wherever they are and at a time that suits them. The dream, right?! Well I recently got the opportunity to grill Lucy for career advice, beauty tips and crimes against beauty...

What inspired you to work in the beauty industry? And how did your career journey begin?

I was working long hours in corporate finance and travelling frequently, so I rarely managed to make a salon appointment. I realised many women shared my frustration in booking beauty treatments at a time which suits them.

In 2012 I decided to make the leap and retrained as a beauty therapist. Beauty school certainly was a lot more fun than accountancy college! I then started to develop the business model for MILK and the rest is history.

Ask TBI: Treating Chapped Lips

Question: I'm lipstick obsessed but my lips are so dry and chapped that every time I apply lipstick, it cracks and looks nasty. I'm using Vaseline on my lips but it isn't helping. What can I do? - Jessica, London.

Answer: Dry and flaky lips are so fucking annoying and near impossible to avoid during these cold months. The only thing us girls can really do to prevent them it is to keep them moisturised at all times and, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but using Vaseline alone won't help. Vaseline is great at locking in moisture, however I've never rated it for hydrating lips or injecting them with moisture. There are a million other lip oils or balms that are better, trust me.

Zelens-Lip-Treatment-Oil-Review

My current favourite lip treatment - although on the pricey side - is the Zelens Lip Treatment Oil (£40.00 SpaceNK). This pout perfecter is formulated with shea butter, jojoba oil, cotton seed oil and argan oil - an impressive group of ingredients that deeply nourish and moisturise the lips. My lips were in a bad way when I first got my hands on this bad boy and, after only a few daily pre-bed applications, they were back to being soft and supple. It is, by far, one of the best lip oils I've used. However, if you're broke as fuck, you could always reach for an eye cream instead.

The Lookbook: AW16 Cherry Lips

AW16-Makeup-Beauty-trends-Bottega-Veneta-lips.jpg

I've always been a fan of statement lips; they look amazing on everyone and can be created using any lipstick shade, texture or finish. The only real downside to wearing a statement lip is saying goodbye to eating and kissing...tough, right?! Oh, and as for drinking through a straw?? Absa-fucking-lootly.

Statement lips always sneak their way into fashion shows and, in true Italian style, bold lips were present throughout Milan Fashion Week. The colour of choice? Cherry. I died. I love this colour like you can't imagine. Shades varied across each show; maroon at Marni, oxblood red at Antonio Marras and burgundy at Bottega Veneta...
