Antonio Corral Calero is a world-renowned hair stylist who has worked with everyone from Saint Laurent and Christian Dior, to Zac Posen and Marchesa. The Spanish-born stylist travels the world as an expert stylist and brand ambassador for Moroccanoil. Luckily I got the chance to stop him on his travels and grill him about all things hair...
What is your career highlight?
As the Moroccanoil Global Creative Ambassador, I've had the opportunity to meet people and see places I never could have imagined. I have certainly become a traveller and an explorer in this journey. However, the most rewarding part of being in this position is that I get to communicate my experiences through sharing with and showing other people what I love to do. We are a company that is making a difference in the industry and I am so proud to be a part of it. The best is yet to come, as I am now living in Barcelona and currently working on many exciting projects.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to succeed in the industry?
Go beyond your comfort zone, be true to your beliefs and don’t be afraid to voice your opinion, even if nobody asks for it! It is important to always keep your integrity - no matter how difficult - and to always remain humble and approachable. I am true to myself, follow my instincts and always try to be open to new inspiration that ignites my creativity. These are the philosophies I share every day.
Who is the ultimate beauty icon?
Penélope Cruz! She has such confidence and can pull off anything from a ponytail to naturally-dried hair. She is real and I think that she represents every woman. I look to her for inspiration - I love everything she does.
What are your hair and beauty essentials?
I definitely cannot live without Moroccanoil Treatment because it’s so weightless and gives tons of shine and manageability to hair - it’s the perfect foundation for styling. I'm as obsessed with the scent as I am with the product’s performance - it smells incredible! It transports me instantly to a spa resort in the Mediterranean. I'm also a huge fan of the Moroccanoil Extra Volume Shampoo and Conditioner, it works wonders in my hair!
What is the biggest hair crime a person can commit?
I have noticed that many women go to bed with wet hair which is not recommendable. A lot of hair loss happens from excessive brushing after sleeping with wet hair. I encourage all my clients to dry their hair and brush it out properly before going to bed.
What is your top hair tip?
It’s really important to take into account the type of hair that you have, so you can adjust products based on your hair’s specific needs to keep it looking beautiful and fabulous!
