My Brow Besties

I'm eyebrow obsessed - always have been, always will be. As far as I'm concerned, the beauty market cannot introduce enough products to treat, condition, enhance, and style the brows. Keep. Them. Coming.

I recently shared a few of my favourite brow growth serums (see the list here!), so I thought it was about time I share my favourite products for shaping, styling, and fixing my eyebrows.

Quarantine Beauty | Eyebrows

Self-isolating isn't the greatest thing in the world, especially when the sun finally makes an appearance BUT it's for the good of the country so stay at home, kweens. Sadly, without the regular trips to the hairdresser, nail salon, spa, or clinic, our personal upkeep will be taking a hit. However, being under quarantine may have its benefits. By not having to face a goddamn soul, you have the freedom to either try something completely new or correct something that's been bugging you for months, safe in the knowledge that - if it goes to shit - no one will see it!

So, for those looking for beauty ideas during this crazy time, I have a quarantine mini series for you. Each post will have a different beauty focus - whether that be nails, hair, or skin. This one is all about the brows...

Feelunique Desert Island Delights | Alice Hamilton

It's that time of the month where I hunt down a Feelunique employee to uncover which three products they'd take to a desert island. After all, no one knows beauty better than the gorgeous people behind Europe's biggest online beauty retailer.

This month's victim is Alice Hamilton, Content Executive. She not only writes the copy for the Feelunique website and newsletter, but she is the amazing writer behind the editorial features on The Lounge.

Nothing impresses me more than a good strong brow. I spend hours perfecting mine and splash too much money on products that promise to keep them on fleek. So when Benefit recently released its new big brow collection, I had to get my hands on it.

News: L’Atelier du Sourcil Launches In London

They age gracefully, have bangin' bodies and stay forever flawless…but French girls have one more envy-inducing attribute to add to our obsession with them. Perfect brows.

Whilst we’ve been busy waxing, threading and pencilling in the hope of achieving eyebrow perfection, French women have continued to stay on fleek with minimal effort. You only have to look to Lou Doillon, Carine Roitfeld and Audrey Tautou to know the French brow game is strong. However their secret is out… and it’s Joss Devilleneuve, The French Eyebrow Queen. Luckily for us Brit girls, Joss recently landed in London to bring her award winning empire and 65th L’Atelier du Sourcil boutique to the UK...

The Tuesday Tip: Pencil Before Plucking

pencil-eyebrows-before-plucking.html

We've all been there. Hunched over our TweezerMate Magnifying Mirror, obsessing over the shape of our brows and plucking a little more than we should. It's hard not to get carried away with the tweezers but the less you pluck the better. Always. After all, no bitch wants sperm brows...

The Tuesday Tip: Budge-Proof Brows

A great set of eyebrows will get you far in life; you only have to look at Audrey Hepburn and Beyonce to know this to be true. Creating a gorgeous brow is quite simple but keeping that brow intact, throughout the day, is not always so easy. Now, achieving a lost-lasting brow obviously requires a good eyebrow pencil (or powder, wax, gel etc.) and a clear brow gel to keep it in place. However there is another quick trick you can do to guarantee staying power. When applying primer to the face, simply take it all the way up into the brows - that's all. Easy and super effective!

To keep my brows strong, I use the Paul & Joe Eyebrow Liner (£15.00 Selfridges / $25.00 Dermstore), MAC Brow Set in Clear 8ml (£13.50 Debenhams / $17.00 maccosmetics.com) and DHC Velvet Skin Coat 15ml (£17.00 feelunique.com / $22.50 dhccare.com). I have been obsessed with the Paul & Joe Eyebrow Liner for the past month. It has an ultra-fine lead (1.2mm) that provides perfect precision. I have the colour Sable (01), an ash brown which helps any extension I make to my brows look as natural as possible. For a while I've known that Paul & Joe Beauté is celebrated for its amazing eyebrow products; I finally understand why.

The Tuesday Tip: Brow Precision

Brushing your eyebrows downward before filling them in will help you see the basic shape of your natural brow. This trick will also show you the gaps that need filling.

The ultimate brow filler is the SUQQU Eyebrow Liquid Pen (£20.00 Selfridges). Not only does this pen create natural and buildable fine lines, it is water and oil–resistant which helps it last throughout the day without smudging. The only problem with this product?? It is not available in the US...sorry dolls!

The Tuesday Tip: Face Framers

As far as I'm concerned, well structured eyebrows are key to achieving a flawless look. They not only hold strong and dramatic eye makeup, but they help to frame the face. For example, bringing the eyebrows closer together will help balance wider set eyes, while taking eyebrows further apart will help even out closer set eyes.

When wanting to create a strong and well defined brow, I would always recommend always using a quality eyebrow pencil. My go-to pencil is the Paul & Joe Beauté Eyebrow Pencil Duo (£14.50 ASOS / $24.00 dermstore.com). It features a lighter shade that delicately shapes and defines and a darker shade that fills in gaps and accentuates arches. It is a must for any makeup bag!

The Tuesday Tip: Toothbrush As An Eyebrow Brush

The next time you go to throw out an old toothbrush, don't! Toothbrushes make perfect eyebrow brushes, helping to groom brows just as well as any cosmetic eyebrow brush.

Toothbrushes are also great for keeping unruly eyebrows in place. Simply spray a little hairspray on a toothbrush before brushing brows and they will stay in perfect condition all day and all night!

The Beauty Myth: You Should Not Pluck Above Your Eyebrows

Verdict: False

Many girls grow up thinking that hairs above the eyebrows should not be plucked, however this couldn't be further from the truth. When it comes to plucking, the only danger is over  plucking. Unwanted hairs grow above and below the eyebrows, so plucking both sides is crucial for maintaining well-shaped, beautiful brows. In actual fact, you can often achieve the best shape for your face by plucking above the eyebrows.

To make sure you pluck precisely, try using the Tweezerman TweezerMate Magnifying Mirror (£14.00 Boots / $23.00 beautybay.com). It is a powerful magnifying mirror that shows even the lightest and tiniest of unwanted hairs.
