Behind The Brand: Bobbi Brown

Date of Birth: 1990

Founder: Bobbi Brown

History: In 1990 make-up artist Bobbi Brown worked with a chemist to create 10 natural looking, wearable lipstick shades. The essential line of lipsticks launched in New York’s Bergdorf Goodman in 1991. Bobbi hoped to sell 100 lipsticks during her first month at Bergdorf's, however she ended up selling 100 during her first day! The successful range began to expand in 1992, when Bobbi Brown was the first cosmetics company to create yellow-toned shades of foundation sticks. From there the brand continued to grow in popularity and was eventually sold to Estée Lauder Companies in 1995, with Queen Bobbi retaining creative control of the brand.

USP: Bobbi Brown provides real beauty for real women. It doesn't care for wild throwaway makeup trends or novelty products. It simply creates quality beauty products that are designed to enhance a woman’s natural beauty.

Motto: “Women want to look and feel like themselves, only prettier and more confident”

Giving Back: Bobbi Brown donate considerable funds and support to two great organisations. The first is Dress For Success, a charity that aims to "promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools". The second is the Broome Street Academy, a tuition-free public charter high school.

Offerings: Bobbi Brown create everything from eye shadows and makeup tools, to moisturisers and bronzers. Oh and (makeup) self-help books!

Hero Products: Shimmer Brick, Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner and Foundation Stick

Availability: Bobbi Brown is sold in 850 locations across 50 different countries. If you reside in the US of A, you can find Bobbi Brown at Sak’s Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdales. If you are based in Britain, you can get your Bobbi fix at John Lewis, House of Fraser and Fenwick.

Ingredients: Lemon

Natural or Synthetic: Natural

Origin: A lemon is a citrus fruit that comes from a lemon tree

Location: Lemon trees are native to Asia, however they are now cultivated all over the world, from the United States and China, to Mexico and Italy.

Beauty Benefits: Lemon is often found in beauty products because it is rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that improve our skin, hair and nails. The hero ingredient is most famous for its exfoliation properties. As with many citrus fruits, lemons contain alpha hydroxy acids that gently remove dead skin cells (stimulating surface skin cell renewal) and treat pigmentation. Lemons also have astringent, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that deeply clean the skin and remove excess oil, without stripping the skin. For these reasons, lemons are a great ingredient for fighting acne and blackheads.

The Tuesday Tip: Get Maximum Moisture

Achieving maximum moisture isn't always easy. There are times when, no matter how many creams or serums you apply, your skin doesn't seem to absorb moisture, let alone retain it! Luckily there is one ingredient you can always depend on to hydrate and moisturise the skin. I'm talking about honey...

Review: Sisley So Intense Eyeliner

The Promise: "So Intense Eyeliner is a felt-tip eyeliner that delivers an intense black line for an instantly beautified look. It does not dry out the eyelids and provides maximum comfort throughout the day".

The Price: £39.00 / $70.00

The Stockist: /

The Shades: Black

The Application: Lining the eyes is easy with the Sisley So Intense Eyeliner - well, as easy as applying liquid eyeliner can be - thanks to its felt tip applicator. This eyeliner pen has a thick base with a pointed tip, enabling you to create thin and thick wings and flicks with ease. I would highly recommend this eyeliner to beginners.

The So Intense Eyeliner's pointed tip enables you to work the colour deep into the lash line. It is quick drying, doesn't drag on the skin and is so highly pigmented that only one coat is needed per application; an important quality for eyeliners with this high a price tag.

The Tuesday Tip: Make Hair Smell Amazing For Longer

A good quality shampoo and conditioner can leave hair smelling amazing, however if you want your locks to smell luxurious for longer, you'll have to make like Miranda Kerr and reach for a fragrance. The Australian supermodel is known for spraying her favourite perfume on her hair. "I like to spritz on the ends of my hair, and also on my clothing before I get dressed - just a little spritz on my clothing. It's a subtle way when you enter the room for people to feel your presence, but not be overwhelmed by it".

Now, if you suffer from dry ends, you may want to avoid spraying perfume directly onto the hair, as most perfumes contain alcohol that will dry out your hair. Instead, spray your favourite perfume onto a hair brush and then brush your hair as you normally would. Voilà!

Review: Illamasqua Equinox Collection

I couldn't have been more excited to review the Illamasqua Equinox collection. Inspired by a "desert at night, engulfed by the starry skies and the constellations of the universe above", the mystic collection features rich broken golds, deep burnished hues and glittering pigments that suit all skin tones.

The new five-piece collection includes a gold liquid eyeliner, eyeshadow palette, red lipstick, pearlescent metallic nail polish and a pair of false eyelashes. I got my claws into three Equinox products and used two of them to create the look below. Here are my thoughts on each...

Broken Gold (£18.50) is a gold liquid eyeliner designed for creating metallic accents on the eyes. It is highly pigmented, super shimmery and stays put longer than most liquid eyeliners! It creates a gorgeous shattered gold effect that can be worn alone or layered over other shadows. Although it's designed for application around the eye area, Broken Gold also looks great on the lips...if you're feeling brave!

Weekly Worship: Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate

Price: £36.00 / $46.00

Stockists: / Barneys

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Oil is such a cult product, that you'd think Kiehl's would have a hard time producing another oil as impressive. However it has, and it is called Daily Reviving Concentrate.

The Daily Reviving Concentrate is designed to fight daily oxidative stress and free radical damage to the skin, which not only causes immediate skin problems but also leads to premature ageing over time. The new oil is formulated with ginger root oil, which contains anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties to soothe and protect skin, sunflower seed oil, which increase skin hydration and Tamanu oil, which locks in moisture.

Review: Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick in Matte Temper

The Price: £15.50

The Stockist:

The Shade: Orange-red

The Application: The Matte Revolution Lipstick is rich and creamy and feels like butter on the lips. This is because it's formulated with ingredients such as avocado oil, olive oil, shea butter and vitamin E, which help to nourish and protect the lips. Because of these great ingredients, the lipstick applies easily and does not drag on the lips, which is rare for a matte lipstick. As for colour, the lipstick is so highly pigmented that one coat is enough to completely cover the lips.
