Review: Topshop Lipstick in Macaroon

Topshop Lipstick in Macaroon review

The Colour: Pink

The Price: £8.00 / $12.00

The Stockist: Topshop / Topshop

The Application: This lipstick applies really easily for a matte lipstick. It has a creamy texture that glides across the lips effortlessly - unlike some matte lipsticks, it doesn't pull at the lips during application, which is a huge benefit.

Topshop lipsticks are scentless and tasteless, which is perfect for me. If a lipstick or gloss tastes good, you bet your ass I'll lick it off within 10 minutes of applying it.

Topshop Lipstick in Macaroon swatch

The Results: A pretty pink shade with a matte finish. This lipstick is highly pigmented and opaque and it lasts a good 3-4 hours before you need to reapply. It keeps your lips nourished and silky-smooth, which is great for a matte lipstick.

The Pro: Gorgeous colour, gorgeous price!

The Con: There isn't one!

Interview: Tata Harper

Right now, Tata Harper is one of the most talked about names in the natural beauty industry. She started her skincare brand, Tata Harper, with a mission to redefine the beauty industry. Her aim was to create results-driven beauty products that are free of industrial synthetics and potentially toxic chemicals. In order to do this she embarked on a four-year journey, discovering the most potent and effective ingredients from around the globe and consulting with the world's top botanists, chemists and beauty experts.

Her journey ended with the creation of Tata Harper, a highly effective and luxurious skincare brand that treats skin issues and provides real anti-ageing results. The brand is adorned by green goddesses and beauty editors alike; even Gwyneth Paltrow, Christy Turlington and Julianne Moore are fans!

Fortunately for me, Tata took some time out of her ridiculously busy schedule to talk to all things beauty...

Tata Harper interview

What inspired you to work in the beauty industry? And how did your career journey begin?

I never imagined I would become a beauty entrepreneur, however it happened out of a passion to create truly natural, totally non-toxic skincare products that actually worked and delivered amazing results. I was inspired to go all natural with the products in my life when my stepfather was diagnosed with cancer about ten years ago. During his treatment and recovery process I learned a lot about toxic load, including the potential health repercussions of being exposed to synthetic chemicals in personal care products. These are products we use twice a day for our whole lives - I was shocked to discover they weren't as safe as I thought they were.

During my search for natural replacements for everything I used, I couldn't find high performance anti-ageing skincare that was truly all natural, so I decided to make it myself.

What is your career highlight?

I'm constantly travelling to meet customers and clients. Each time I meet someone who uses our products, they are thrilled with the results and are so grateful they discovered us - that is always big highlight for me. It's inspiring and it makes me so happy about what I do and what our products do for women's wellness and beauty. I love to make women beautiful!

What advice would you give to someone wanting to succeed in the beauty industry?

To be very, very passionate about your mission. Passion will make you stand out from the crowd and give you the energy to carry the project where it needs to go. Making it in this industry is all about sticking to your vision, knowing what makes you totally unique and finishing what you start!

Tata Harper founder interview

Who is the ultimate beauty icon?

There are so many beauty icons from each era, however my ultimate beauty icon is my mother.

What are your makeup bag essentials?

I don't use very much makeup day to day. However I always have my Hydrating Floral Essence on-hand, for a refreshing hydration boost when my skin is feeling dry. I also use my Be Adored - a tinted lip treatment that I wear every day. Sometimes I apply it to my cheeks to add colour.

What is the biggest beauty crime a person can commit?

Going to sleep without washing off your makeup! Free radicals, from pollution that you're exposed to throughout the day, remain on your skin and trapped in your makeup. Cleansing the skin each night is essential for it to fully recover and refresh itself as you sleep.

What is your top beauty tip?

This sounds cliché but my top beauty tip is to drink lots of water and eat well. About a third of what we eat goes directly to nourish our skin - so what we put in our bodies really affects how we look. A good anti-ageing skincare routine should be complemented with great food and lots of water, as dehydrated skin is more prone to fine lines, wrinkles and dullness. So drink up & enjoy your fruits and veggies!

The Tuesday Tip: DIY Dry Shampoo

Suffering from Unwashed Hair Syndrome (UHS) and don't have a shower or dry shampoo in reaching distance? Then reach for the baby powder!

Cheap version of dry shampoo

Considered by some to be the original dry shampoo, baby powder (also known as talcum powder) soaks up oil and dirt and adds texture to the hair, making it look thicker and cleaner!

I keep a tiny travel-sized pot of baby powder in my handbag at all times. After all, you never know when your locks are going to go greasy on you! If you want to keep things clean and classy, you could always find a place in your handbag for the Batiste Dry Shampoo On The Go 50ml (£1.50 Superdrug / $3.99 ULTA). Bastiste is, by far, one of the best dry shampoos brands in the world and their travel-sized cans are too cute for words!

The Beauty Myth: Plucking A Grey Hair Will Cause More To Grow Back

The Verdict: False

This is one of the craziest, yet most famous beauty myths in existence.

There is no way plucking one grey hair will cause more grey hairs to go grow back in its place. It is simply not possible for surrounding hair follicles to turn grey when you pluck out one grey hair.

Regardless of whether or not plucking a grey hair will cause more to grow in its place, you should not be plucking out any hairs from your head...

Pulling out your hairs can cause irritation and permanently damage the hair follicles. So put the tweezers down and either embrace the grey or get dyeing!

Weekly Worship: Dermalogica, Environ & Illuminum

Illuminum Rajamusk review

Price: £100.00 / $150.00 100ml

I am obsessed with fragrances. I own a million perfumes that I've collected over the years and I struggle to part with every one of them. Researching unique fragrance brands is one of my favourite pastimes and, up until recently, Illuminum was a brand that went undiscovered. It is a British fragrance brand that launched four years and is most famous for creating Kate Middleton's wedding day scent, White Gardenia Petal.

I recently got hold of the brand's Rajamusk scent and I have fallen in love with it. Containing the perfect blend of fruits and flowers, Rajamusk features top notes of pear blossom and redcurrant, middle notes of lily of the valley and violet petals and base notes of white patchouli and musk. The scent is weightless and feminine and contains a mixture of sweetness and spice.

The Tuesday Tip: Best Eyeshadow Colours For Green Eyes

Best makeup colours for green eyes

If, like me, you have green eyes and want them to smoulder, use a contrasting colour around the eyes. Plum or warm lavender hues can make green eyes look piercing, as they are both on the periphery of the red colour family - which is almost green's opposite.

To cover off both daytime and evening looks, invest in a good eye shadow palette. I recommend the gorgeous Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Eyes Palette in Reflet D'Améthyste (£35.00 John Lewis / $57.00 feelunique.com).

The Beauty Myth: Sleeping On Your Side Causes Wrinkles

Verdict: True

Unfortunately, this popular beauty myth is actually true...

Sleeping On Your Side Causes Wrinkles

Sleeping on your side and pressing your face against a cotton pillow, or any other surface for that matter, can cause 'sleep lines'. Sleep lines aren't the worst problem in the world however, over time, sleep lines can result in deep, permanent wrinkles.

shocked animated GIF

The best way to prevent sleep lines is to sleep on your back, however training yourself to do this can be tricky and frustrating. So, if sleep lines do concern you, I would recommend investing in a silk pillowcase. A silk pillowcase not only prevents sleep lines, it maintains clean and healthy skin and hair and it feels amazing!

Understanding...Moles

Healthy mole

Moles are very common, so common that you'll struggle finding a single person on this earth that doesn't have one. Most moles are harmless, however some can be life threatening. Some people regard moles as a sign of beauty, while others see them as a sign of ugliness. Moles clearly mean different things to different people, so it's about time we starting talking about them...

What are moles?

Moles are simply a collection of cells that are skin coloured or brown. Most moles begin to form on the body in early childhood and by adulthood it's normal to have up to 40 moles. Moles can appear anywhere on the body, they can be raised or flat and they can be positioned alone or clustered together.

When it comes to moles on the face, the most common type are benign intradermal naevi. As Dr Perry, Medical Director of Cosmedics Skin Clinics, explains, "These are skin coloured or lightly brown moles that stick out of the skin often in areas around the chin and mouth but also on the cheeks and forehead".
