Faithful Four: Hydrating Serums

Best Hydrating Serums

Indeed Laboratories Hydraluron

Promise: “Hydraluron™ contains a pure form of hyaluronic acid, an incredibly hydrating ingredient that holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Red marine algae helps with maximum delivery. The result – better hydrated, moisture nourished, plumped up skin.”
Price: £16.66 30ml
Purchase: Boots

Hyaluronic Acid is the magic ingredient in this serum and, for those of you who don't know, Hyaluronic Acid is a substance naturally found in the human body - mostly in the fluids in the eyes and joints. Hyaluronic Acid is used in this skin saviour as it's capable of absorbing up to 1,000 times its weight in water. So it is able to hold on to the moisture in your skin, as well as the moisture provided by skincare products you put on top of it.

The Hydraluron serum has a gel-like texture that absorbs quickly. It is perfect for all skin types and only a small amount of product is required to cover the entire face. This serum keeps skin hydrated throughout the day and it helps to improve the performance of other skincare products used with it.

Environ Ionzyme Focus Hydrating Serum

Promise: “Environ Ionzyme Focus Hydrating Serum is a revolutionary new treatment that intensely hydrates and adds volume to target skin areas, visibly reducing fine lines and treating dry, photodamaged skin.”
Price: £66.00 / $109.99 30ml
Purchase: skin3.co.uk / environ.co.za

Much like the Indeed Laboratories Hydraluron, the Environ Ionzyme Focus Hydrating Serum contains the hydrating hero ingredient, Hyaluronic Acid. Therefore it is also great at retaining skin's natural moisture, as well as maintaining the moisture provided by other skincare products you use. Environ recommend using this product twice a day to ensure maximum benefits, however I just apply it each morning and still see great results. Applying this serum daily leaves my skin radiant, bouncy and much more hydrated.

The Ionzyme Focus Hydrating Serum feels a little tight and tacky on the skin when first applied, however this sensation disappears after five minutes. It is also scentless - due to the fact that Environ products don't contain artificial fragrances - and it comes equipped with a dropper bottle, making application clean and easy. This serum may be on the expensive side but it really does do wonders for your skin and one bottle seems to last forever!

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum

Promise:“Fortifying and soothing serum for dehydrated & sensitive skin. With mineral-rich Vichy Thermal Water, Hyaluronic Acid and Aquabioryl™. 24Hr hydration, skin feels more comfortable and protected”
Price: £17.00/$36.00 30ml
Purchase: Boots / ULTA

The Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum instantly hydrates the skin more than any of the other serums mentioned. It has an incredibly thin, gel-like texture that applies easily and, unlike some hydrating serums, absorbs quickly without leaving a tackiness on the skin. Not only does this serum absorb immediately, it also makes skin smooth and soft in under a minute after application. It leaves skin so smooth that you could apply foundation directly onto the skin without needing to use moisturiser.

In addition to being a great skin hydrator, the Aqualia Thermal Serum is paraben-free and is perfect for use on sensitive and acne-prone skins. I love everything about this serum, however its scent reminds me of hairspray a little - L'Oreal Elnett to be precise!

Antipodes Hosanna H20 Intensive Skin-Plumping Serum

Promise: “A water-charged and oil-free bioactive serum that immediately quenches thirsty skin and helps intensively improve skin appearance over time”
Price: £28.00/$42.50 30ml
Purchase: Selfridges / feelunique.com

Antipodes Hosanna H20 Intensive serum is certified organic, so it is perfect for all you green goddesses out there. This serum is particularly interesting because it replaces standard 'aqua' - found in practically every beauty product - with Waiwera water, a water low in sodium and rich in naturally occurring minerals.

Hosanna H20 Intensive has been scientifically proven to stimulate type 1 collagen production by up to 72% and, after using this product for a couples of weeks, you will be able to see these results for yourself. This serum is amazing for deeply hydrating the skin and leaving it plump and free of those pesky fine lines.

Hosanna H20 Intensive is a water-based serum, so it has a very fine, watery texture. However it does come equipped with a dropper bottle - helping to make application clean and easy. It hydrates instantly, just like the Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum, and it leaves skin smooth and soft in seconds. It also smells amazing!
