Review | AKT The Deodorant Balm

Let me introduce you to AKT, the British brand behind the premium natural Deodorant Balm celebrated for its sustainable, natural, and - most importantly - high-preforming credentials.

AKT is the creation of two theatre actors, Ed Currie and Andy Coxon, who felt mainstream deodorants weren't helping them through eight intensely physical shows a week - shows that involved dancing under hot lights and running between a dressing room five flights away from the stage. Not to mention the rehearsals, classes, and training sessions during the day.

They found that antiperspirants stained their clothes, made them smell like teenage boys (Lynx Africa anyone?), and most problematically, didn’t stop them sweating. They tried natural deodorants, however after finding themselves smelling like B.O only a couple of hours after application, the two men decided if they wanted the perfect deodorant, they'd have to create one. From that point on, the duo spent three years researching, developing, formulating, and collaborating with leading experts in fragrance and cosmetic science. After that time, The Deodorant Balm was launched.

The Deodorant Balm is formulated with a blend of premium, natural ingredients - a key one being the Deo-Barrier Complex™ that keeps your body feeling dry throughout the day. Its moisturising formula absorbs instantly with no mess and can be used on the feet, forehead, and chest - or anywhere else you may need all day protection. Made in the UK, it is also vegan, cruelty free, free of aluminium salts, and, most impressively, doesn't stain clothes.

Applying the deodorant is easy, you just pop a pea-sized amount into clean underarms once a day, working it into the skin the same way you would with a moisturiser. On average, each tube lasts 2-3 months with AKT's recommended daily application.

One of my favourite things about The Deodorant Balm is its focus on fragrance. I think AKT is the first deodorant brand I've found that aligns its scents with that of a perfume, fragrance notes and all! There are five different fragrance options to choose from but my personal favourite is Columbia Road. It features top notes of zesty lemon and cut stems, middle notes of iris, coffee, and violet leaf, and base notes of amber and tonka bean.

Demonstrating AKT really did think of everything when designing The Deodorant Balm, its packaging is plastic-free. It is housed in an aluminium tube that, in addition to being recyclable, is durable and portable. To take things a step further, the boys also created bespoke aluminium caps to prevent more plastic entering the ecosystem.

The AKT Deodorant balm cost £19 for 50ml and is available from aktlondon.com, alittlefind.com, and trouva.com.
