Todd Harris Wolf is an amazing makeup artist and good friend. He has worked with some of the world's most loved A-listers, as well as some of our favourite brands and magazines. After knowing him for well over a year and being a huge fan of his work, it was about time I grilled him on all things beauty...
What inspired you to work in the beauty industry? And how did your career journey begin?
The industry's ever-changing creativity. Every year colors, textures, formulas and styles change. It provides endless creative possibilities for an artist.
My career journey began when I helped a friend/actress get ready for an event when her makeup artist didn't turn up. I absolutely loved the transformation of her face with makeup, and from then on I knew I was hooked on makeup artistry.
What is your career highlight?
My career highlight was getting to work with and assist Genevive Herr. I learned so much from her, and working with her changed everything for me.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to succeed in the industry?
My ultimate beauty icon is my Mother and Elizabeth Taylor.
What is the biggest beauty crime a person can commit?
Bad foundation - too much, wrong color or lack of blending.
What is your top beauty tip?
Drink lots of water with lemon and exfoliate.
What are your makeup kit essentials?
- Really listen to what people want from you
- Leave your ego at the door - sometimes you need to go down to go up
- Afford the proper respect to those who have come before you
- Work on as many different face shapes you can. Beg friends, grannies, moms, friends...anyone you can!
- You must assist. I've learned more through assisting than through anything else
