Ingredients 101: Macadamia Nut Oil

Natural or Synthetic: Natural

Origin: Macadamia nut oil is expressed from the nut meat of macadamia, an Australian rainforest tree.

Location: Macadamia is native to the East Coast rainforests of North Eastern parts of Australia

Beauty Benefits: Macadamia nut oil has a variety of beauty benefits and, because of this, it is used as a key ingredient in many cosmetic products. Firstly, Macadamia nut oil contains one of the highest sources of palmitoleic fatty acids. Palmitoleic acid naturally occurs in our skin and it is vital for delaying skin and cell ageing, however the amount of palmitoleic acid in our skin decreases with age. So it is the high levels of this miracle acid that makes macadamia nut oil a fabulous anti-ager.

In addition to palmitoleic acid, macadamia nut oil also contains oleic acid, a fatty acid which has great regeneration and moisturising properties, and linoleic acid, another fatty acid which helps prevent trans epidermal water loss.

When it comes to hair, macadamia nut oil is just as beneficial. Macadamia oil moistures and replenishes the hair without weighing it down or making it greasy. It also protects the hair from harmful UV rays and improves shine and elasticity.

Warnings: Macadamia nut oil is safe to use topically
