Ask TBI: Choosing The Right Cleanser

Question: I have been using a foam cleanser for the past few weeks and I have noticed that it is making my skin really dry and tight. I do have dry skin but I think the cleanser is making it worse! Is there a better alternative? - Emily Thompson.

Answer: It is likely that the cleanser you're using contains Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS). Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is an ingredient that removes oil from the skin, making it a no no for those with dry skin. Unfortunately a huge number of foam and gel cleansers contain this ingredient, so I would advise looking for a different type of cleanser altogether.

As you said you have naturally dry skin I would recommend using an oil or cream cleanser. I'm a huge fan of the Neighbourhood Botanicals Face Off Oil to Milk Cleanser (£27 neighbourhoodbotanicals.com). Every ingredient in this cleanser is 100% natural and none of those ingredients will alter your skin's pH or strip it of moisture. It removes makeup gently and effortlessly, giving you a deep cleanse that doesn't compromise your skin's hydration levels. After cleansing with Face Off, skin is just left fresh and super soft!
