Review: Dermalogica Biosurface™ Peel

The Promise: "The BioSurface™ Peel is a professional chemical peel designed to resurface the skin with minimal recovery time. Our unique, multi-phase approach works with the skin’s biology to safely slough away dull epidermal layers and accelerate cell renewal without inflammation and prolonged downtime typically associated with chemical peels"

The Price: £85.00 (60 minute treatment)

The Place: Liberty Regent Street, London W1B 5AH

The Treatment: Before having the Dermalogica Biosurface™ Peel, I had a few concerns. After all, I saw Samantha Jones post-peel on Sex And The City...

I used to believe that chemical peels equalled inflamed and peeling skin - resulting in a post-peel appearance that would scare even the bravest of children. Now, some women believe these side effects are the sign of a good chemical peel, however a good schooling from Dermalogica soon put an end to that myth. Contrary to popular belief, a professional chemical peel shouldn't leave skin damaged, inflamed or flaking; despite its name, there should actually be no peeling in a chemical peel.

Chemical peels are designed to safely remove dull outer layers of skin and help the skin underneath regenerate for a smooth, radiant complexion. The Dermalogica Biosurface™ Peel is a four-step treatment that starts with preparing the skin to allow for efficient penetration of subsequent actives that get applied. The next steps include the application of two complex active formulas, Enzyme Active and Acid Active. The Acid Active (AKA the main event) can be layered to a maximum of five times, depending on the condition of the skin and desired results. The final step, the De-celerator, stops the exfoliation process, deceases the activity of the acids and normalises the epidermis. It does this while calming and igniting the process of skin repair. A lovely, relaxing way to finish the treatment!

My Dermalogica Biosurface™ Peel was pain-free and as relaxing as it could have been. When it came to the Acid Active part of the treatment (stage three), I did experience slight tingling, however this was to be expected and the therapist was there at all times to insure I didn't experience any pain. By the way, this therapist was perfection! Before I even entered the treatment room, she explained the procedure step-by-step. She also asked a variety of questions on the current state of my skin, including what products and treatments I use and what my skincare concerns and desires are. She was friendly, professional and super knowledgeable about skin - I felt in very  safe hands.

The Results: As soon as the Biosurface™ Peel was over my skin looked radiant and refreshed. However it was my skin's appearance the next morning that really showed off the benefits of the treatment. My skin was glowing like I've never seen before and pigmentation had been reduced. It was bright, plump and super soft - like my 16-year-old self had come out to play!

A day or so after the treatment, I did experience slight peeling above my brows however this didn't cause me any pain or discomfort and it only lasted three days. What was particularly great about the peel was that it came with a BioSurface Peel After Care Kit, which included an UltraCalming™ Cleanser, broad-spectrum Super Sensitive Shield SPF30, two nourishing moisturisers and an AGE Smart Multivitamin Thermafoliant® to help buff away post-treatment peeling. This was a great added extra as treating and protecting skin after a peel is absolutely essential.

The Pro: This peel did wonders for my skin, however the After Care Kit has to be the biggest pro. Any good skincare brand can create a quality chemical peel. However a brand putting this much consideration into after-care treatment is very  impressive.

The Con: I haven't found one yet!
