Ingredients 101: Grapefruit Extract

Scientific Name: Citrus Grandis Peel Extract

Natural or Synthetic: Natural

Origin: Grapefruit extract comes from a peel of a grapefruit, a subtropical citrus fruit.

Location: Grapefruit was first cultivated in Barbados, however the United States is now the top producer of grapefruit.

Beauty Benefits: Grapefruit is sometimes referred to as the 'fruit of paradise' because of its many health-promoting benefits and healing properties. This natural wonder is packed with vitamin C, vitamin A, potassium and citrus flavanoids - all important antioxidants. Potassium helps to smooth wrinkles and age spots and provide a protective shield against UV rays and vitamin C boosts the immune system, encouraging collagen production. Vitamin A exfoliates and hydrates the skin, whilst improving the skin's cellular structure and overall health, and citrus flavanoids help prevent the over production of melanin, giving skin a brighter complexion.

Warnings: Grapefruit is considered safe to use topically, however if you are pregnant or breast feeding, please consult your doctor before using it.
