The Replenishing Cream Cleanser contains hyaluronic acid to provide instant hydration, alongside the brand's hero Ceramide Booster technology to actively restore the skin barrier from the very first cleanse. Interestingly, this cleanser does not include ceramides in its formula. This is because, according to the brand, topical ceramides can never truly deeply replenish skin as the molecules are too large to penetrate the deep layers of the epidermis. In contrast, Simple’s 11% Ceramide Boosters are small enough to penetrate all layers to fix the skin barrier from within, helping the skin create its own ceramides and build a strong barrier of lipids and proteins.
I've been using the Active Skin Barrier Care Replenishing Cream Cleanser for the past week and find it gentle and nourishing on my skin. Only a small amount of product is needed per cleanse and when massaged into my skin, the formula's creamy texture transforms into a soft foam. The scent-free cleanser removes effortlessly, leaving nothing behind but soft and hydrated skin.
Although this cleaner is great at removing a day's worth of makeup and grime, it's not great at removing mascara and heavy makeup. Then again, it doesn't sell itself on its makeup-removing abilities, so I can't be mad! For these reasons, when removing heavy makeup, I double cleanse and use the Replenishing Cream Cleanser for my second and final cleanse. Overall I love this cleanser and will keep it in my bathroom cabinet for times when I experience skin dryness and sensitivity.
The Active Skin Barrier Care Replenishing Cream Cleanser is free of perfume, colour, sulphate, soap, and harsh chemicals. Its formula is 98% biodegradable and is not tested on animals. It costs £8.00 for 230ml and is available from Boots.
