Protecting the skin during the summer months couldn't be more important - after all, who wants to look like this by the time they hit 35...
However finding a good facial SPF that sits well under foundation can be a fucking nightmare. Risks include product peeling, uneven coverage, application troubles and lack of lasting power. Also, if you're anything like me, you'll hate too many (product) layers when it's hot out. So, although I'm not a huge fan of the natural look, it's pretty much necessary when the sun is out. Rather than layering too many products, I opt for tinted moisturisers that contain SPF.
The newest tinted moisturiser in my collection is the Omorovicza Complexion Perfector BB Medium SPF 20 (£60 John Lewis). This silicone-free tinted moisturiser provides a physical sun-block without the chemicals - a great option for the green girls among us! Coverage is light but still able to leave the complexion looking healthy and radiant. The impressive formula contains hyaluronic acid to hydrate and plump the skin and vitamin C to boost the production of collagen and elastin, reduce free radical damage and boost cell turnover. The Complexion Perfector also features white lupin, which energizes and revitalizes, as well as pollution-fighting ingredients, making it the perfect all-in-one solution for achieving protected, healthy skin.
Another favourite is the Trish McEvoy Beauty Booster Tinted Moisturiser SPF 20 (£58 Liberty). In my eyes, Trish McEvoy does no wrong when it comes to product creation, and this beauty is no exception. It is a lightweight, build-able tinted moisturiser that enhances and evens out the complexion for a gorgeous no-makeup makeup look (thanks to its light-diffusing colour). The coverage itself is light-to-medium and is ideal for all skin types. Its formula features hyaluronic acid to deeply hydrate the skin, as well as a variety of other antioxidant-rich ingredients to support skin health. Like the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer, this one packs an SPF 20, however it also protects against both UBA and UVB damage.
One of my longest standing recommendations is a true makeup icon. It is the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF20 (£34 feelunique.com). This worldwide best seller boasts a sheer, lightweight formula that moisturises skin while adding a smooth, healthy glow to your complexion. It keeps skin protected through an SPF 20 and an antioxidant-rich vitamin complex that protects from environmental damage. It is perfect for most skin types (there is also an oil free version!) and can be mixed with other foundations if you require a fuller coverage. It applies effortlessly, leaves a gorgeous dewy finish and is extremely long-wearing.
If you're looking for a tinted moisturiser with a little more sun protection, I recommend the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Illumination Colour Correcting Full Coverage Cream SPF 50 (£30 Selfridges). Now, I appreciate this bad boy isn't technically a tinted moisturiser, however it is a light to medium coverage CC cream - so it may as well be one! It packs a seriously impressive SPF 50 and the kind of skin-benefiting ingredients you'd be surprised to find in a makeup product.
The CC+ Illumination Colour Correcting Full Coverage Cream applies and blends perfectly, lasting all day without irritating or drying out the skin. It does a great job at colour correcting, providing a beautiful bright and dewy finish. It is great for the majority of skin types, but those with oily skin may struggle with that glowing finish. Instead, I would opt for the original Your Skin But Better CC Cream SPF 50.
