Grooming: Autumn Scents

With autumn officially here, it's time to give you a run down of the best scents to wear this season...

My first recommendation comes courtesy of Acqua Di Parma. The luxury lifestyle brand's new fragrance is Colonia Pura (£66 John Lewis/$110 Nordstrom) and, just like the original Colonia of Acqua di Parma, Colonia Pura is said to capture the joy of the Italian way of life. It is an exclusive, masculine and fresh scent that contains top notes of bergamot, orange, petitgrain and ozonic, heart notes of jasmine sambac, narcissus and coriander and base notes of patchouli, cedar and white musk.

Colonia Pura is the creation of Francois Demachy, the master perfumer behind Dior Homme, Fan di Fendi pour Homme and Dior Sauvage. And, like the other masterpieces Demachy has created, this eau de cologne is unique and captivating.

Another great fragrance worth getting your hands on is the John Varvatos Dark Rebel Rider (£49 Debenhams/$69 Sephora). Inspired by the iconic black leather jacket and the world of motorcycle racing, this scent is bold, adventurous and very masculine. This eau de toilette is the result of a long-standing collaboration between John Varvatos and Givaudan Vice President of Perfumery, Rodrigo Flores-Roux.

Dark Rebel Rider is a leathery, woody scent that works well during the day and night, which makes its great lasting power even more beneficial. It contains top notes of bitter orange, aldehydes, saffron, marjoram and hyssopea, heart notes of orris, osmanthus, black violet, rock rose, resin, frankincense and tolu balsam and base notes of Russian leather, cocoa, vanilla extract, atlas cedarwood and patchouli.

My final scent suggestion is a unique creation from Parfums de Marly, the extravagant perfume house rekindling the golden age of perfumery. The brand's new fragrance is Carlisle, a scent created especially for Harrods, London's iconic department store.

Created by Hamid Merazi-Kashani, Carlise (£215 Harrods/$299 Harrods) features top notes of bergamot, mandarin orange, apple and French lavender, heart notes of violet, jasmine and geranium and base notes of gaiac wood, patchouli, sandalwood, cardamon, vanilla and pepper. It is a sensual fruity and spicy fragrance that smells incredible. If you're looking for a scent that you're unlikely to smell on another man, this one is definitely for you.
