A Day At Champneys Tring Health Spa

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to spend the day at the famous Champneys spa resort in Tring. The purpose of this trip? To relax and get my body summer-ready. I succeeded.

Champneys Tring is located in a beautiful stately home in Hertfordshire, surrounded by 170 acres of rolling parkland. It is the vision of one man, Stanley Lief, who 90 years ago pioneered the concept of holistic wellbeing, creating a place where people could escape the world’s cares and re-emerge revitalised. Champneys remains one of England's most famous health spas, offering health, fitness and wellbeing at your fingertips. As well as lashings of spa pampering of course…

Champneys Health Spa offers over 100 different types of treatments, from the traditional (i.e. facials, hot stone massage and dry flotation) to the exotic (i.e. Hawaiian massage, Reiki, shrinking violet wrap and Indian head massage). So whether you’re seeking luxury pampering, detox, relaxation, activity, spiritual escape, extreme sport, indulgence or boot camp, you will definitely find it here.

My spa day started with a lovely healthy breakfast - granola, herbal teas and fruits - followed by a quick trip to the changing rooms to get into the quintessential spa outfit - swimsuit, robe, flip flops and topknot. Next up was a series of amazing beauty treatments and relaxing down-time (aka hours in the pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room).

My first treatment of the day was a quick eyebrow reshaping, followed by a relaxing and much-needed full body exfoliation. The exfoliation treatment incorporates the most gorgeous-scented Champneys body scrub, which left my skin as soft as silk...ready for the spray tan I was getting at the end of the day. Next was a gorgeous mani-pedi in the resort's new nail bar - where Jessica is the nailcare brand on hand - followed by a healthy lunch of salads, light bites and water (it is a health spa after all...).

In the afternoon I got to experience the new Champneys detox and well-being spa; the very first of its kind in the UK. This new sea and mineral treatment detox spa offers a selection of unique, water-based personalised treatments inspired by the foundations of ancient, spiritual cleansing. Using the recuperative, natural qualities of seawater, algae and marine minerals, the detox and wellbeing spa treatments have been carefully selected for their stimulating, cleansing effects on both the body and mind.

I tried pressotherapy - a treatment in which you wear detoxifying boots that help remove toxins at a cellular level (ideal for treating varicose veins and cellulite) - and the Frig-Thalgo Leg Wrap - an intensive anti-cellulite treatment that encourages the elimination of toxins and excess fluid from the legs. I loved both treatments and ended up wishing I could spend the rest of the afternoon trying out all of the other detox and well-being spa's offerings.

The finishing touch to my spa day was a St. Tropez spray tan, which left me bronzed, glowing and ready for summer.

Although Champneys invited me to this fabulous spa resort, I loved every moment of my time there and can't wait to go back with girlfriends to experience even more of the amazing treatments on offer. Next time around I have to stay overnight because the grounds and house at Champneys Tring are beyond stunning.
