Beauty Bosses | Part One

There is nothing I love more than a beauty brand owed and operated by women. So, I wanted to put some great beauty bosses in the spotlight. After all, Kweens need to be celebrated...

First up is Marie Lavabre and Sophie Lavabre-Barrow, the mother and daughter duo that created KINN, a new(ish) clean living lifestyle range with a simple ethos; Clean Beauty for you, your family and your home.

Marie and Sophie noticed a gap in the market for a truly transparent green British lifestyle brand that makes a clean living accessible to more of us. Interestingly, in launching KINN, the women joined the ranks of only 5% of female lead companies to receive EIS and SEIS funding.

KINN products are organic and based on heritage aromatherapy-based family recipes. Ingredients are plant-based, eco-friendly, non-toxic, natural, organic, not tested on animals and vegan friendly - free from parabens, phthalates, SLS/SLES, synthetic fragrances, PEGs, petrochemicals, propylene glycol, colourants. Plus, the packaging is recyclable and it’s made in the UK! The products themselves are amazing, I should add.

Next we have Dr. Zamani. Renowned in the UK as ‘the’ eye doctor, Maryam is a highly respected
Oculoplastic surgeon and leading aesthetic doctor. Based at The Cadogan Clinic on London’s prestigious Sloane Street, Dr. Zamani is loved for delivering the most natural-looking results with her anti-ageing treatments and is known for her exceptional patient care, light-handed approach and professionalism.

Dr. Zamani put all of her expertise and vast experience into creating her own skincare collection, MZ SKIN. Loved by A-lister all over the world (Elle Macpherson, Gwyneth Paltrow and Princess Charlene of Monaco), MZ SKIN works to change the perception of clinical skincare from purely function to a sensory experience. As far as I'm concerned, the brand succeeds in doing so!

MZ SKIN is an award-winning and science-backed skincare line that is performance-driven. With potent. it boasts some impressive clinical trials too! With a focus on anti-ageing and skin health, each product is carefully formulated with pioneering ingredients and trusted actives, to deliver the essence of beautiful skin – age-defying luminosity.

The final female in the spotlight is Susie Ma, founder of Tropic Skincare. Susie has always had a passion for natural beauty and it began at a very young age. At 15 years old, she began making skincare products in her family kitchen and then began - successfully - selling them at Greenwich Market during her weekends and school holidays!

To grow her beauty expertise and business, she enrolled in cosmetic formulation evening classes while still at school. She continued to build Tropic Skincare while studying for her degree at UCL, funding her tuition with the sales from her business. After university, Susie competed in the 2011 series of BBC’s The Apprentice - she was aged just 21, making her the youngest ever candidate on the show. She also became the only candidate to receive funding from Lord Alan Sugar without winning! Impressive, huh?

Susie’s mission for Tropic was always to create products that will genuinely benefit the skin; no damaging chemicals, no marketing crap - just nutritious ingredients that fall in line with her core ethics of being ‘Pure. Honest. Effective.’. And her efforts have clearly paid off. Tropic Skin is now a serious contender in the beauty world, offering conscious customers everything from skincare and tools, to makeup and bodycare. If you haven't gone Tropic yet, you need to!
