Interview: Sara Hill | MUA

Sara Hill is one bad bitch. She is a an award-winning makeup, magazine editor and brand founder who has worked with some incredible designers, magazines and celebs (Kanye West, Emeli Sande and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley to name a few). She is the Editor of HOPE ST, an independent fashion and culture magazine, and she is the woman behind the Academy of Makeup - a school offering a selection of accredited make-up artistry and hair styling courses. However, if that wasn't enough life accomplishments for one gyal, Sara also founded Sara Hill, a fresh new Independent make-up brand you have to get acquainted with.

I recently got the chance to grill Sara on all things beauty. Here's how it went down...

What inspired you to work in the beauty industry? And how did your career journey begin?

I started my career in makeup at 16, working in the film and television industry. I worked for the BBC and for the popular show Stargate SG-1 out in Vancouver. After a few years I decided to take another path and work in fashion which I love!

What is your career highlight?

Starting my own brand has definitely been a career highlight. It took over five years of development and a lot of hard work - but it was also a lot of fun!

What advice would you give to someone wanting to succeed in the industry?

You have to really really want it. You don't do this job to make money, you do it because you have a passion to make art and to make a difference.

Who is the ultimate beauty icon?

There are many. I love anyone that doesn't care what others think about what they do with their makeup and I admire those who feel totally happy without makeup. Anyone who wears a face full of glitter every day gets my vote too!

What are your makeup bag essentials?

My makeup product choices change every day, as I believe makeup should be fashion for the face. The only product I use all the time is my Luxury Face Primer.

What is the biggest beauty crime a person can commit?

Not being true to themselves!

What is your top beauty tip?

Experiment, don't follow the rules, have fun and play - it's only makeup!
