Review | Parfumado

Parfumado is an easy, fun, and affordable perfume subscription service that launched in the UK this year.

Pronounced Parf-ooh-ma-doe, the Dutch company provides the ultimate service for those that have fragrance commitment issues, love to try niche perfume offerings, or just can't wait to get their hands on the latest scents the second they launch.

A monthly Parfumado subscription costs £12.95 and, for that, you’ll receive an 8ml travel-size scent of your choice in the post each month. Each 8ml bottle is set to last 30 days (based on an average four sprays a day). You’ll also be sent a travel case with your first order to enable you to take your fragrance on the road. Importantly, you can cancel at any time, so you’re never tied in, and you can pause or skip deliveries if you have a particularly expensive month.

The Parfumado library is made up of an impressive 450 scents. These include fragrances from independent brands, such as AER, Montale, and A.N Other, as well as big names, such as Tom Ford, Narcisco Rodriguez, and Prada.

As for what fragrance you receive each month, the choice is yours. You can either select the fragrance directly or be guided by the sites AI algorithm, which is based on a tailored 10-question fragrance profile quiz you complete when you sign up. There’s also an ‘ask the experts’ service if you're in need of some advice, as well as Collections section of the website with great filters that allow you to search sustainable scents, new fragrances, or even perfumes that smell like spring.

I tried this service recently as I am a huge fragrance fan. I'm luckily to have a good collection of perfumes, however fragrances are quite the investment. So a services that gives you the chance to really try out the scent before making a full size commitment is something I can get behind.

Using the service was incredibly simple. I just signed up, selected my subscription, completes my perfume profile quiz to find my perfume family (it is woody and oriental), and picked my perfumes for the months ahead.

What I loved was the sheer selection of scents on offer. As expected, there were a lot of mass market fragrances listed, however there were also a huge number of fragrances and brands that I had never even heard of. Just browsing through the site helped widen my product knowledge.

After selecting my fragrance, my first month's fragrance arrive through my letter box as scheduled. The scent lasted a whole month, allowing me to really put it through its paces. I didn't like the perfume enough to purchase the full size, but I did like Parfumado enough to keep my subscription going!
