Behind The Brand: OPI

OPI was originally named Odontorium Products Inc and started off as a small dental supply company. The company was purchased by George Schaeffer in 1981, with Suzi Weiss-Fischmann joining as Executive Vice President and Artistic Director shortly after.

Schaeffer and Weiss-Fischmann partnered with R. Eric Montgomery, a biochemist, to create an acrylic nail system that Schaeffer sold door-to-door to local nail salons. They eventually closed the dental sales and focused entirely on nail products, changing the company name to OPI Products Inc. In 1989, OPI expanded its portfolio to nail lacquers and the company eventually evolved into the much-loved, globally successful brand we know today! OPI was eventually acquired by Coty, Inc in 2010.

OPI is most famous for its incomparable nail lacquer - a brilliant, chip-resistant professional formula that is available in a huge number of shades. In addition to offering a large amount of classic shades, OPI releases two seasonal colour collections a year and is continuously launching celebrity collaborations and movie-inspired ranges.

OPI support a huge number of charities, organisations and campaigns. George Schaeffer and his family actually founded their own charitable organisation, the Schaeffer Family Foundation, in 2000. The foundation has raised millions of dollars to support great causes such as the Leukaemia Research Foundation, Rock the Vote and Project Hope International.

OPI has also created exclusive lacquers shades for the Lung Cancer Foundation of America, Breast Cancer Awareness and the American Heart Association. In addition, after such disasters as 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina, OPI employees banded together and raised $350,000 for the American Red Cross.

OPI offer everything you need to keep nails, hands and feet looking fabulous. The entire OPI range features everything from limited edition lacquers and nail tools, to skin scrubs, hand creams and nail strengthening treatments. The bran's hero products include Lincoln Park After Dark Nail Lacquer, Nail Envy, I'm Not Really A Waitress Nail Lacquer, Tickle My France-y Nail Lacquer and RapiDry Lacquer Spray.
