Interview: Kristin Petrovich | Co-Founder Of Själ

Kristin Petrovich is the Co-Founder of Själ, a holistic luxury skincare brand she created with her mother, Karen Petrovich. The twosome founded Själ out of a desire to create a simple skincare regimen addressing multiple concerns with a minimal amount of products (that also happen to be free of fillers and harsh chemicals). There isn't much Kristin doesn't know about skincare, so I decided to grill her on her career highlights, beauty essentials and top tips...

What inspired you to work in the beauty industry? And how did your career journey begin?

At the time, it was about more about creating something that I felt inspired - almost driven - to create. It was about creating modern skincare - simple and effective yet result oriented and comprehensive, focusing on the synergy between ancient eastern medicines and the latest in western biotechnology.

I had a general background in Eastern practices and medicines and spent a lot of time pouring through medical research on degenerative diseases. I was fortunate enough to find a blue sky chemist who was working on peptides before peptides were peptides and it was this discovery that started the Själ journey.

What is your career highlight?

I'll let you know when it happens! Haha!

What advice would you give to someone wanting to succeed in the industry?

Follow for your instinct and don't compromise - originality and authenticity count.

Who is the ultimate beauty icon?

A woman who is interesting, who strives for a balanced life, takes care of herself but still has her pursuits and passions. The present day icon is Tilda Swinton and the past is Ingrid Bergman.

What are your beauty essentials?

A serum, a face cream, water and SPF.

What is the biggest beauty crime a person can commit?

Being stressed and not sleeping enough. It can age you overnight!

What is your top beauty tip?

Hydrate according to your needs. If you're flying, on medication or lacking in sleep, you may need more (or heavier) skincare products. However if it's a humid day or you are hormonal, you may require less (or lighter) products.
