Faithful Four: Face Oils

Best face oils

Perricone MD Chia Serum

Promise: “This scientifically formulated serum rapidly transforms dull, dry skin to a visibly vibrant, glowing and healthy complexion”
Price: £62.00 / $75.00 30ml
Purchase: Selfridges / Sephora

First up is the Perricone MD Chia Serum (aka the radiance booster of the group). Although the word 'serum' features in its title, this face oil really is just a face oil.

The Perricone MD Chia Serum is an antioxidant-rich face oil that is packed with - you guessed it - chia oil. Chia oil is extracted from the seeds of a chia plant, which is native to central and southern Mexico and Guatemala. Chia seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids strengthen the skin cell membrane of the epidermis and improve the texture and quality of the skin.

If you are apprehensive about using a face oil, the Perricone MD Chia Serum is the one for you. I say this because it has a consistency that is not too oily and it absorbs very quickly. It has a strange marzipan-like scent, which may not please everyone, however this fragrance disappears from the skin a few minutes after application.

What really makes the Perricone MD Chia Serum amazing is the way it transforms your complexion. It evens skintone, helps reduce pigmentation and provides skin with the most gorgeous glow!

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate

Promise: “A replenishing nighttime facial oil with distilled botanicals that visibly restores the appearance of skin by morning”
Price: £36.00 / $46.00 30ml

Let me introduce you to the all-rounder of the group (aka the holy grail of face oils).

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate is the name and this oil is worshipped worldwide by beauty lovers and bloggers alike.

Like the Perricone MD Chia Serum, this oil is a great entry level product for those nervous about experimenting with face oils. This is because it is incredibly lightweight and doesn't really feel like a 'normal' face oil at all. In fact, when it comes to texture, I would say the Midnight Recovery Concentrate feels like a cross between an oil and a serum. Only two drops of oil are needed per use and it applies perfectly to the skin. It also absorbs fully the second it's applied, so you don't experience an oily face or oily pillow!

The morning after you apply the Midnight Recovery Concentrate, skin is radiant, refreshed and super smooth. I've never known a face oil to produce these type of results so quickly. I just can't stress it enough, this midnight miracle is a serious must have!

Aesop Fabulous Face Oil

Promise: “Nine carefully selected botanicals deliver exceptional hydrating and fortifying benefits to detoxify, smooth and balance normal or patchy skin, with a non-greasy finish. Suited to all seasons, cities and skin type”
Price: £40.00 / $57.00 25ml
Purchase: aesop.com / Barneys

Now this is the skin saviour of the group. The Aesop Fabulous Face Oil is designed for sensitive, combination and acne-prone skin types as it does an amazing job at detoxifying, soothing and repairing the skin. It is one of my go-to products when I breakout, as it reduces both redness and pimple size!

It has a strong floral scent that may not be for everyone, however the fragrance disappears 10 minutes after application. This lightweight oil absorbs quickly and leaves a matte, non-greasy finish on the skin. Only a small amount of product is required per application and, because of this, the Fabulous Face Oil lasts a very long time.

As amazing as this oil is, I wouldn't recommend it for those with very dry skin as I don't find it moisturising enough.

Kahina Argan Oil

Promise: “Light and non-greasy, the Kahina Argan Oil absorbs easily, instantly giving skin a radiant glow”
Price: £74.00 100ml / $36.00 30ml
Purchase: naturisimo.com / kahina-givingbeauty.com

Finally we have the Kahina Argan Oil; the multitasker of the group. It is designed for use on the face, hair and body. I use it for just about everything - from soothing chapped lips to nourishing dry hair ends and cuticles.

The Kahina Argan Oil is definitely the oiliest face oil in the group. Although it is rich, it applies easily and evenly and doesn't feel at all heavy on the skin. It features a subtle musty scent, which - thankfully - disappears when applied to the skin. This oil does take a while to fully absorb so, if you're applying it in the evening, I would do it at least 30 minutes before bed to ensure it's fully absorbed and won't transfer onto the pillow.

This oil keeps my skin deeply moisturised, subtle and soft; a perfect partner for combating dry skin.
