Fragrance Fancies

Being a fragrance addict, I've been trying a variety of scents lately and there are some I've fallen for in a big way...

First up is the Marc Jacobs Eau So Decadence (£54 The Perfume Shop/$112 marcjacobs.com), a sensual woody scent that symbolises feminine glamour and sophistication. It features top notes of ivy, pear and blackcurrent, middle notes of magnolia, jasmine and lily of the valley and base notes of cashmere wood, white amber and raspberry. This scent is a different take on the brand's loved Decadence fragrance, however it is fresher and lighter, making it perfect for wearing both day and night. If you like an understated sexy scent, I can't recommend this eau de toilette enough.

Next up is the Carven Paris Soa Paulo. This eau de parfum, which launched this year, is an oriental spicy scent that is a real head turner. It features tops notes of beragmont, cinnamon and rum, heart notes of orange blossom, cardamon and labdanum and base notes of tonka bean, vanilla and patchouli. This gorgeous scent is part of Carven's new Collection Carven, a range of seven fragrances inspired by the wonderful and inspiring travels, couture and fragrance legacy of the fashion and fragrance pioneer Madame Carven. Paris Soa Paulo is exclusively available at Selfridges and sits very much on the side of luxury, costing £140 for 100ml ($180 Nordstrom). Although the price tag is high, this fragrance's lasting power and one-of-a-kind scent make it very much worth the investment.

Acqua di Parma Rose Nobile (£78 John Lewis/$130 Sephora) is another favourite - a beautiful fragrance featuring Centifolia rose at its heart. The Centifolia rose featured in this uber feminine scent is carefully grown and cultivated in a small rose garden in Piedmont, Italy. Each bud is hand-picked at dawn when they are still fresh and dressed with the morning dew, during 40 days between May and June... can ingredient sourcing get any fancier?! Rose Nobile features top notes of mandarin orange, bergamont and pepper, heart notes of violet, peony and lily of the valley and base notes of cedar, ambergris and musk. Although it has a delicate composition, Rose Nobile is seriously powerful - only a small amount is required per application and the scent lasts for hours.

My final favourite is the Juicy Couture Majestic Woods (£89 Selfridges/$130 Sephora). Not just because it takes inspiration from fairy tales (huge fan) but because it's a gorgeous oriental wood fragrance that holds the most interesting scent. Containing top notes of tonka and praline, heart notes of ambrox and warm amber and base notes of wood, this scent works as well for men as it does for women. It is a warm and sensual eau de parfum that I prefer to apply when the sun goes down. It is also the perfect scent to wear during the autumn and winter months! It has some real lasting power and only requires a few sprays for impact. Yas Juicy Couture!
