Interview: Lisa Goldfaden | Co-Founder of Goldfaden MD

Lisa Goldfaden is 'The Princess of Natural Skincare'; the daughter of Gary Goldfaden, M.D. - a practicing dermatologist, lifetime member of The American Academy of Dermatology - who she created Goldfaden MD with, along with Robert Goldfaden and Lauren Wolk. Goldfaden MD is the first physician strength, dermatologist developed, natural skincare line in the industry and I'm a big fan. I recently got the opportunity to grill Lisa for career advice, beauty tips and crimes against beauty...

What inspired you to work in the beauty industry? And how did your career journey begin?

Throughout my life, I have had the pleasure of being able to watch my father make profound changes in so many individual lives simply by the way in which they view themselves from a physical standpoint. Being able to watch the lives of so many people change and transform through the way of dermatological practices of enhancing the way in which our skin appears has touched me so much and what keeps me motivated on a daily basis.

I wanted to share all I had learned from my father with the public. I was mostly fueled by the fact that there really wasn't much natural skincare available on a retail level. We were so used to using products from his practice that he created, that when a friend would ask me what I used and where to purchase it, I would have to get it for them.

What is your career highlight?

Every time a customer tells me we helped his/her skin ailment. That feels better than anything!

What advice would you give to someone wanting to succeed in the industry?

Know what your brand is and commit to it. The beauty industry is extremely saturated, so concentrate on what your brand does best. Know what makes you different and then choose a strong team to help implement growth. I also happen to think that kindness goes a long way.

Who is the ultimate beauty icon?

It is so difficult to pick just one. Alive I will say Lara Stone. She is one of my beauty inspirations, as she can look traditional and modern all at once. I also love her freckles and the gap in her teeth and the fact that she never fixed it to fit into a beauty standard. Dead icon is Marilyn Monroe hands down…The Ultimate!

What are your beauty essentials?

Goldfaden MD Fleuressence Native Botanical Cell Oil - which boosts radiance, hydrates and shields against environmental stresses. Goldfaden MD Bright Eyes because it targets darkness and puffiness (which I suffer from). I also cannot live without Goldfaden MD Plant Profusion Regenerative Night Cream, due to the powerful plant stem cells, supreme hydration, soothing and attack on appearance of wrinkles.

What is the biggest beauty crime a person can commit?

Not exfoliating. Your skin looks so dull without exfoliation.

What is your top beauty tip?

Sleep and wearing an SPF!
