Ask TBI: Choosing The Right Cleanser

Question: I have been using a foam cleanser for the past few weeks and I have noticed that it is making my skin really dry and tight. I do have dry skin but I think the cleanser is making it worse! Is there a better alternative? - Emily Thompson, Atlanta.

Answer: It is likely that the cleanser you're using contains Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS). Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is an ingredient that removes oil from the skin, making it a no no for those with dry skin. Unfortunately a huge number of foam and gel cleansers contain this ingredient, so I would advise looking for a different type of cleanser altogether.

As you said you have naturally dry skin I would recommend using an oil or cream cleanser, such as the cult classic Shu Uemura Ultime8 Sublime Beauty Cleansing Oil 150ml (£37.50 / $42.00 This calming cleanser helps to remove all traces of dirt and makeup - mascara included - whilst moisturising the skin and leaving it with a gorgeous glow.

Karl Lagerfeld's spoiled pussy, Choupette Lagerfeld, recently collaborated with Shu Uemura to create the brand's 2014 holiday collection, Shupette. Included in the collection is a limited edition Ultime8 Sublime Beauty Cleansing Oil. It's the same oil but with much  prettier packaging, so if you're going to invest in this beauty hero, I recommend doing so ASAP! It's too cute for words!
